Science Festival: come and discover the world of research and plants!

As every year, the IJPB actively participated in the Science Festival with for 2025 a photo exhibition, scientific discovery workshops and mini-lectures.

IJPB scientists are committed to making research and laboratory experiments accessible to the general public during the Science Festival. A photo exhibition will be held from September 25 to October 15 at the the media library "Médiathèque du canal Murmed" (Montigny-le-Bretonneux, 78), a workshop on October 4 and 5 and a mini-lecture on October 5 the at the Paris-Saclay Science Village (ENS Paris-Saclay, 91). Also workshops and mini-lecturers will take place on October 11 at "Le Court-Bouillon", cultural and community Café (Rambouillet, 78).

Photo Exhibition – The Plant Revealed

Step into the heart of plants and explore the infinitely small with the Plant Observatory OV. Scientists from the IJPB present their finest research outcomes through an exhibition of state-of-the-art microscopy images. Discover plants in vibrant colour and exquisite detail – organs, cells, ultrastructures! When science meets art!

Workshop - Colourful maize that is more drought-resistant and better for feeding cows!

Saturday 4th october, 2-6 pm & Sunday 5th october,11 am -6 pm, Village des Sciences Paris-Saclay
From the cow's perspective, what makes corn more digestible? What do they look like? From the scientist's perspective, how can they be identified? Come discover, through games, a quiz, and by observing stem cross-sections, what a cow-beneficial and water-efficient corn looks like! These activities reflect some of the research work of the "Biomass Quality and Interactions with Drought" QUALIBIOSEC team, a long-term effort from the laboratory to the field and from the field to the laboratory.

Mini-lecture – The Contribution of Plant Sugars to Our Daily Lives: Feeding, Clothing, Housing and Heating Us
by Rozenn Le Hir

Sunday 5th october,  Schedule to be announced, Village des Sciences Paris-Saclay
The sugars produced by plants are valued by humans to provide food, clothing, shelter and energy. In this lecture, I will explain how sugars are produced and used by plants, and then, through concrete examples, explore how plant sugars are part of our everyday lives.

Workshops and mini-Lectures – The Science festival Comes to "Le Court-Bouillon", Rambouillet’s Community Café!
Saturday 11th october, 3-7 pm - Le Court-Bouillon
Scientists from IJPB and GQE- Le Moulon (Elodie Marchadier) invite you to take part in hands-on workshops through experiments and games, helping you to better understand the world around us and its diversity. Short-format talks will also punctuate the afternoon. Would you like to try your hand at programming, extract DNA, discover where biodiversity comes from and what it is for, or solve mathematical puzzles?
