The IJPB at the 16th edition of Esprit Jardin

Workshops on oils and leaves on April 27th and 28th, 2024 in Versailles

Esprit Jardin was launched more than 15 years ago and brings together more than 20,000 people passionate about plants and gardens. This major event provides the opportunity to raise awareness among both young and older people about science in an unexpected setting, to discover another facet of plants, and to awaken and satisfy the curiosity of the general public.

Following the success of its first participation in Esprit Jardin 2021 (news), marking its 10th anniversary, the IJPB renewed the experience in 2022 and 2023. For 2024, two new workshops weree on the program!

> Can you recognize oils from the ends of the earth?
Scents, colors, textures, and origins were all elements to guide the general public on this exotic journey. Vegetable oils and their fabulous chemical properties are full of resources for food, cosmetics and green chemistry! To enhance knowledge, game were also part of the program.

> Shapes of the leaves revealed
This workshop allowed aprticipants to discover the fascinating world of leaves, from their shape to their function. Through playful games and hands-on observations, the general public was invited to explore their incredible diversity!

It was also posible to discover the plants studied at the IJPB, as well as the different ways of growing the "green mouse" of plant research laboratories, the lady's cress, a plant of the Brassicaceae family (fomerly Cruciferae), a small cousin of cabbage, radish, rapeseed, and pope's coin.

Despite the weather, these workshops were a great success, totaling 480 visitors! Thank you all for your presence, your questions, and your enthusiasm!
