BENEFIT-Med, a PRIMA project

The PHYGERM team brings its expertise in seed biology

BENEFIT-Med is a PRIMA project, which is part of a Euro-Mediterranean initiative aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices to enhance biodiversity and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change. The PRIMA program receives support from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, the European Union's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

Commencing on May 30th, 2022, BENEFIT-Med is being implemented in collaboration with eleven partners from Germany, France, Greece (3), Morocco (2), Tunisia, Portugal, and Algeria. This project was conceived with a primary focus on improving seed germination as a crucial step in promoting orphan legumes and fostering local socio-economic development in North Africa and the Mediterranean region. The enhanced capacity for germination serves as a hallmark of high-quality seeds, indicative of successful crop yields.

The IJPB "Germination Physiology" PHYGERM team brings its expertise in seed biology, seed technology, and data management to the BENEFIT-Med project, enriching its capabilities in optimizing seed performance and facilitating efficient data-driven decision-making processes.

The successful and productive Mid-Term Meeting of BENEFIT-Med (September 2023) took place in Setif at the University Ferhat-Abbas, with participants joining both in-person and online, including all BENEFIT-Med partners, the Advisory Board, and the PRIMA Secretariat.
