The plasma membrane-cell wall continuum: diversity, dynamics, and biotic interactions
The study of structure-function relationships in the plasma membrane-cell wall continuum aims to understand how the diversity of wall polysaccharides and glycolipids influences plant physiological functions and adaptation to their environment. This relationship is particularly complex as it involves multiple organizational levels, from the fine structure of glycans to cellular responses, in the context of biotic and abiotic stresses.
Throughout her career, Aline Voxeur has focused on deciphering plant cell wall signaling mechanisms, particularly the role and structure of oligosaccharides and membrane-wall attachment sites:
> Initially, she addressed this question through the study of rhamnogalacturonan II (RGII), the most complex known polysaccharide, during her PhD at the University of Rouen under the supervision of Pr Patrice Lerouge.
> Her postdoctoral work at the University of Edinburgh enabled her to explore RGII- plasma membrane interactions, before joining the IJPB (2013-2018) to investigate the role of RGII in lignified tissues and characterize oligosaccharides produced during plant infection by Botrytis cinerea. A period at the University of Amiens allowed her to deepen the understanding of pectinase mechanisms.
> Her recruitment as INRAE Research Scientist in 2020 oriented her research toward an integrative approach combining analytical chemistry and cell biology to explore the structural and functional diversity of plant oligosaccharides derived from both membrane and cell wall.
Her work, conducted in a collaborative framework involving academic partners (ANR, Carnot 3BCAR) and private partners contributes to elucidating the molecular mechanisms deployed during biotic and abiotic stresses.
