Léa Barreda honoured with the joint 2025 SFBV–AAF thesis award
On the 1st of October 2025, Léa Barreda received the joint thesis award from the “Société Française de Biologie Végétale” (SFBV– French Society of Plant Biology) and the French Academy of Agriculture (AAF). This prize recognises the excellence of her doctoral research on “Characterisation of the diversity and plasticity of the specialised metabolome in Brassicaceae seeds, carried out within the “Seed - Development, Regulation and Metabolism" (SEED-DREAM) team, under the supervision of Massimiliano Corso and Loïc Lepiniec.
The award was presented during the Tribute Day to Jean-François Morot-Gaudry held at the INRAE site in Versailles, by Jean-François Briat on behalf of the AAF, and Jérémy Lotier & Gisèle Cordillot on behalf of the SFBV. Since 2019, the SFBV and the AAF have jointly awarded this prize to recognise outstanding doctoral research in the field of plant biology.
Léa Barreda’s passion for plant biology metabolism began early in her academic journey. In 2018, during her second-year undergraduate internship within the "Germination Physiology" (PHYGERM) team, she contributed to research on carotenoid biosynthesis involved in abscisic acid synthesis – a key hormonal pathway in seed physiology. From February to July 2025, she took part as a postdoctoral fellow in the SeedNapic project, entitled “Characterisation of sinapic acid pathways in seeds and their role in defence against pathogens and oxidative stress”, coordinated by Massimiliano Corso and funded by the Saclay Plant Sciences (SPS) network.
Lea Barreda is currently pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship at at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB, CSIC) in Madrid (Spain), funded by an EMBO fellowship. Her work builds on her previous research on specialized metabolites and now focuses on exploring the specialized metabolite diversity of Marchantia polymorpha and Radula obconica oil bodies.
