Seminar Gabriela Lamy

Plants in the palace of Versailles collections - Thursday, February 9th 2026 11 am, INRAE, Versailles

Representations of life - plants, trees, and flowers - are omnipresent in the collections of the Palace of Versailles. Based on the presentation of a selection of works from "Le Grand Dauphin" exhibitionGabriela Lamy offers a specific interpretation of the plants depicted on various media (paintings, drawings, statues, exterior sculpted decorations, furniture, porcelain, fabrics, herbarium plates, etc.). Her work notably involved cross-referencing these representations with manuscript and printed sources in order to better understand the work and the symbolism of plants throughout history.

This seminar is part of a partnership between the INRAE IdF - Versailles-Saclay centre and the the Palace, Museum and National Estate of Versailles (EPV). This collaboration was formalised with the signing of an agreement in 2025 and the implementation of join projects between the Palace of Versailles and the IJPB. Their collaboration began in 2017 with the IJPB's participation in the Science Week organised by the Palace. These relations were strengthened during the project “Arenguade: A French-style garden in Ethiopia” (IJPB news 10/21/24) and more recently with the art and science project “The Roots of Color” initiated by Betty Cottyn (IJPB news 11/27/25).
