The IJPB at the 17th edition of Esprit Jardin

A workshop on maize and drought resistance on April 26th and 27th, 2025 in Versailles
Esprit Jardin was launched more than 15 years ago and brings together more than 20,000 people passionate about plants and gardens. This major event provides the opportunity to raise awareness among both young and older people about science in an unexpected setting, to discover another facet of plants, and to awaken and satisfy the curiosity of the general public.

Following the success of its first participation in Esprit Jardin 2021 (news), marking its 10th anniversary, the IJPB renewed the experience in 2022, 2023 and 2024. For 2025, two new workshops weree on the program!

All in color maize or how to select better corn to feed cows and more drought-resistant corn!

From the cow's perspective, what makes corn more digestible? What do they look like? From the scientist's perspective, how can they be identified? Come discover, through games, a quiz, and by observing stem cross-sections, what a cow-beneficial and water-efficient corn looks like! These activities reflect some of the research work of the "Biomass Quality and Interactions with Drought" QUALIBIOSEC team, a long-term effort from the laboratory to the field and from the field to the laboratory.

You will get to know the plants studied at the IJPB and the different ways of growing the "green mouse" of the plant research laboratories: the lady's cress, a plant of the Brassicaceae family (ex Cruciferae), a small cousin of edible plants as cabbage, radish, mustar, rapeseed and garden plants as pope's coin, alysse and wallflower.
